CAPER 2023

Over 16th and 17th May 2023, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) played host to CAPER 2023. CAPER (Community of Air Pollution Effects Researchers) brings together academics, students, consultants, practitioners, and policy makers to debate the latest directions in air pollution research and policy in relation to its ecological impacts. Delegates were mainly from the UK, but representatives from Ireland and Portugal were also present.

International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

Today, 7th September 2020, is the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, hosted by UNEP (the United Nations Environment Programme).

The main aims of the day, which will be celebrated globally and repeated on September 7th in the years to come, are:

a) To raise awareness of the topic in general (sources, effects (incl. on plants), abatement measures, links to other environmental challenges such as climate change);

African ozone pollution workshop

"Ozone pollution: A hidden threat to African crop production"

As part of the NERC-funded Official Development Assistance project ‘SUNRISE’ (https://www.ceh.ac.uk/sunrise), scientists of the ICP Vegetation Coordination Centre at CEH Bangor held an ozone pollution training workshop for African scientists from 24th – 26th September 2019. Five scientists, with a wide range of expertise, attended from Kenya, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. The workshop had 3 key aims:
